Marelva de Mey is student Kunst & Economie (HKU). In haar afstudeeronderzoek richtte ze zich op de kloof tussen beleid en de leefwereld van (bi-culturele) makers en grassroots initiatieven, met een focus op diasporische en hiphop-geïnspireerde praktijken. Vanuit een stedelijke en afro-diasporische lens ziet ze kunst als een plek van reflectie, empowerment en identiteit. 

Marelva neemt haar inzichten mee naar onder andere CBK Zuidoost en als deelnemer aan de Community of Practice van de Boekmanstichting over democratisering van cultuur.

Marelva de Mey is a student of Arts & Economics at HKU. In her graduation research, she focused on the gap between policy and the lived realities of (bi-cultural) makers and grassroots initiatives, with particular attention to diasporic and hip hop-inspired practices. From an urban and Afro-diasporic perspective, she views art as a space for reflection, empowerment, and identity formation.

Marelva brings these insights into her work with organizations such as CBK Zuidoost and through her participation in the Boekman Foundation’s Community of Practice on the democratization of culture.
