Eleftheria Ioannidou is universitair hoofddocent Theatre and Performance Studies aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Haar onderzoek richt zich op de receptie van het Griekse theater in de twintigste en eenentwintigste eeuw, met bijzondere aandacht voor nationale identiteit, politiek en ideologie. Zij is auteur van de monografie Greek Fragments in Postmodern Frames: Rewriting Tragedy, 1970–2005 (OUP 2017) en publiceerde uitgebreid over het gebruik van de klassieke oudheid onder fascistische regimes en binnen hedendaags extreemrechts.

Daarnaast was zij mede-redacteur van twee themanummers over fascisme en klassieke oudheid: (Re)Living Greece and Rome: Performances of Classical Antiquity under Fascism (Fascism: Journal of Comparative Fascist Studies, Brill 2023) en A Hellenic Modernism: Greek Theatre and Italian Fascism (Classical Receptions Journal, OUP 2024).

Eleftheria Ioannidou is an Associate Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Her research examines the 20th- and 21st-century reception of Greek theatre, with a focus on national identity, politics, and ideology. 

She authored the monograph Greek Fragments in Postmodern Frames: Rewriting Tragedy, 1970-2005 (OUP 2017) and has published extensively on the use of classical antiquity under fascist regimes and the contemporary far right. She co-edited two special issues on fascism and classical antiquity: (Re)Living Greece and Rome: Performances of Classical Antiquity under Fascism, Fascism: Journal of Comparative Fascist Studies, (Brill 2023) and A Hellenic Modernism: Greek Theatre and Italian Fascism, Classical Receptions Journal (OUP 2024).
