Alice Lagaay, hoogleraar Arts, Culture and Society met een focus op Performance Philosophy aan de University of Groningen, is medeoprichter en kerncoördinator van het internationale Performance Philosophy-netwerk. Haar onderzoek richt zich op “negative performance” (niet-doen, passiviteit, stilte…), de filosofie van creatieve onverschilligheid (Friedlaender/Mynona) en praktijken van speculatief design, met bijzondere aandacht voor “magische expertise”.

In haar werk onderzoekt zij niet-traditionele vormen voor het ontwikkelen en communiceren van filosofische inhoud — vaak in samenwerking met kunstenaars en ontwerpers, en steeds vaker geïnspireerd door de lessen van paarden. Ze is mede-redacteur van The Routledge Companion to Performance Philosophy (2020) en van de boekenreeks Performance Philosophy bij Bloomsbury Publishing.

Alice Lagaay, professor of Arts, Culture and Society with a focus on Performance Philosophy at the University Groningen, is a founding member and core convener of the international Performance Philosophy network. Her research focuses on “negative performance” (not doing, passivity, silence…), the philosophy of creative indifference (Friedlaender/Mynona), and on practices of speculative design (with a focus on “magical expertise”).

She seeks to explore non-standard formats for the generation and communication of philosophical content – often in collaboration with artists and designers, and increasingly inspired by the lessons of horses. Co-editor of The Routledge Companion to Performance Philosophy (2020) and of the Performance Philosophy book series at Bloomsbury.
